Social media feed
In SocialMed, you enter a world, either on your own or in small groups, that feels surprisingly familiar. You literally step into a social media feed full of short videos about health, technology and living longer. Just like in a real feed, you can scroll through and let us know how you feel about it.
The videos will get you thinking about important issues. How will medicine change when AI makes diagnoses? What does living longer mean for our mental resilience? And how healthy can a society remain when technology is taking on more and more care tasks? As you go, you’ll discover what life might be like in the near future.

One possible vision of the future
Next, you will find yourself in an immersive space where all the content comes together. A central feed shows what’s just been shared and liked. This is where you can take it all in. Together, these videos paint a powerful picture of what may lie ahead.
Feeling uneasy? Finding it hard to draw the line between what’s real and what isn’t? Not everything is spelt out, but you’ll be left feeling that there are important issues at stake.
The reality check
After the confrontation comes the reality. When you step out of the feed, you’ll discover what already exists today, what’s being actively developed and what remains a distant prospect for now. We show how these innovations can change our lives, but also what questions they raise about what’s possible and what should be allowed, and about data and privacy.
We can’t provide all the answers, but one thing is certain: the future isn’t set in stone. You too can help shape it.
Thinking about tomorrow
How do you feel about the vision of the future you saw? Before you leave SocialMed, you’ll have the chance to give your feedback on the potential impact of technological innovation on our health and medicine.
We challenge you to look beyond today and think about the impact on yourself, everyone around you and our society.
What we do know for certain
About the concept
When developing SocialMed, we drew on our many years of experience in science communication for young people. On this basis, we came up with a concept that reflects their everyday lives closely and encourages them to think critically for themselves.
In addition, we drew on the expertise and recent scientific research of AZ Zeno, Biovia, het Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde, UZ Brussel en VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology) in the field of medicine and healthcare. The social media feed is designed to spark discussion, but at the same time we also provide accurate scientific explanations, context and the necessary nuance.
